Road Bridges & Joint Fill

Ductal® is opening new possibilities for the construction, widening and renovation of bridges.

For new bridges, Ductal® allows large, transportable elements to be precast. The increased use of precasting allows deadlines to be shortened and the impact of the construction site to be reduced. As part of another construction solution, Ductal® is cast in situ to allow slabs made from conventional concrete to be assembled into a bridge deck that is highly resistant and durable ("joint fill" application).
The lightness of Ductal® elements means that decks can be widened with little impact on the support structure.

Ductal® can also be employed to line damaged elements or to reinforce the load-bearing capacity of the structure.

Ductal®: Building Bridges for the Future

Thousands of bridges worldwide are deteriorating and in need of urgent repair or replacement. Officials are often faced with challenges such as: high traffic volumes, continuous heavy loads, reduced budgets and demand for less inconvenience during maintenance. Plus, repairs or new constructions are often conducted during limited or overnight closures - some in remote locations and harsh climates. Consequently, there is a growing need for superior technical solutions that utilize "performance" materials which deliver the highest standards, especially in terms of durability and sustainability. Ductal® ultra-high performance concrete is one of these materials and, for the past decade in North America, has been used with great success on 30 bridge projects (so far), in a variety of applications that include joint fill and precast deck panels and girders.

Bridges that are more resistant, more durable, lighter and faster to build.

Ductal® Joint Fill is a field-cast solution for precast bridge systems that provides superior strength, durability, fluidity and increased bond capacity.
