New applications

Villa Navarra

La Villa Navarra opens a new era in materials. Its roof in Ductal® concrete is a world first, the hybrid fruit of the boldness and expertise of Rudy Ricciotti, architect, Romain Ricciotti, structural engineer, and Mouloud Behloul, Lafarge concrete engineer. They meet up for a round table to talk about this building.

Chairs for the future in New-York

The International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York has just exhibited the all new line of ultra thin and especially light chairs made in Ductal® by Vancouver architect Omer Arbel.

The conceptual originality of these chairs made by Formglas, one of the North American leaders in manufacturing pre-stressed products for architecture, also attracted the organisers of the exhibit held during the national convention of the American Institute of Architects in Las Vegas.

The thinness of Ductal® plaques and their capacity for being tinted throughout in a wide variety of colours were used by the architect and Formglass to propose a design based on Ductal® solidity, even in a less than 5mm thick plaque for a very contemporary look.

Examples of Ductal®'s outstanding potential in the building sector include the construction of door casings which emphasize the openings, a prominent theme in contemporary architecture, or the construction of stairways which combine strength, aesthetics and thin sections.

The wide variety of possible exteriors (with rough surfaces to avoid slipping) and colors, combined with unsurpassed durability, open the door to high potential, mass-production applications such as floor slabs, and indoor and outdoor stairways in public buildings and private homes.

A further use on the fringes of the construction sector is the production of safety valuts and other security related to structures.
